The story of Sinterklaas

On Friday we were lucky to have another Room 1 parent, Inge, come in to tell us a story from her homeland of the Netherlands.  She shared with us how Luca continues her childhood tradition in New Zealand, and leaves his shoes and some food for St Nicholas and his horse on the eve of 6th December.

Sinterklaas sails to the ports of Holland and, on his white horse, the Black Peters and St Nicholas deliver presents to the children.  Thank you for the lovely photos showing this colourful tradition.

It was a pleasure to come in & to share something (special) from my culture / my country. As Luca has 1/2 Dutch in him, it's one tradition I wanted to share with him, so December is a pretty good month for him as he has a visit from Sinterklaas AND Father Christmas. Lucky boy ;-)

It was fun coming in, thank you for having me :-) Inge
